It's probably wise to get a boater's education course before operating a boat in a State of Georgia from now on because of the new boating law. Although it'll be effective only on July 1, 2014 and onwards, it's best to be prepared early on.

Aside from the new law that all motorized vessel operators who are born on or after January 1st, 1998 should take a boater's education course, all are expected to observe safety precautions. Some of these precautions are the following; all are advised to follow the simple rules of navigation, use life jacket, never operate a boat under the influence, keep the 100-foot law in mind and observe the minimum age limits for boat operators.
You will only be exempted from the new law on taking a boater education course if you are described as the following;
  • A person licensed by the Coast Guard as a master of a vessel;
  • A person operating on a private pond or lake;
  • A non-resident who has in his or her possession proof that he or she has completed a NASBLA-approved boater education course or equivalency examination from another state.
